Mobile RV Repair — Guide to Fix Peeling Cabinets

A mobile RV does not have solid wood parts in its cabinets and other wooden accessories. Instead, they are made of composite board covered in veneer. This veneer laminate, with time, can start peeling off, exposing the board underneath. This is very ugly and exposes the material to weather effects as well. Today, we will offer a simple mobile RV repair guide about how to fix peeling veneers in your RV cabinets.

  • Fixing Peeling Veneer

First, utilize a putty knife under the peeling laminate and remove any dirt or debris that may have accumulated under there. When you get a reasonably clean surface underneath, pry it up a little bit using the knife and spray some aerosol adhesive in there. The adhesive should coat both the underside of the veneer and the exposed board. Now hold it like that for a while (2-3 minutes) so that the adhesive may harden enough to become actually sticky.

When the aerosol adhesive becomes tacky, remove the knife and press down on the peeling part of the veneer hard to the composite board and keep it absolutely flat. Then keeping the pressure, apply something to hold them together for a long time, like a spring clamp. You will need to add a clamp for every two inches of peeling veneer.

  • Fixing Peeling Paper Coatings

If you have cabinets made of MDF boards in your RV, chances are, you got paper coatings on them. This is much more different than veneer or laminate and with age, they peel off as well. If the MDF board itself is strong, here is the mobile RV repair guide for fixing peeling paper coating off MDF cabinets in your RV.

The paper coating starts to peel off at the edges; mostly on the bottom side due to accumulated moisture or upwards going vapor. If you see this, you have to take immediate action, or else you will get large patches on your cabinet quite soon! There is only one way to fix this: replace the paper coat.

First, however, you have to remove the old paper coat. For that, use an Exacto knife to cut away the bad paper off the board without cutting the board. Then, get the same kind of paper with the same kind of design, and use their instructions to stick it on the missing places. Make sure to cut according to the open areas.
